James G. Painter

Jim Painter is an accomplished business leader with deep industry expertise in Hardware, Home Improvement and Home Building. As co founder of Atlanta Retail Consultants, he offers more than 25 years of excellence in leading businesses through strategy, planning and execution in the hardware, home improvement, and home building industries.

Previously, Jim was President & GM of Masco Corporation's operating company Home Depot -HDSS, LLC. Jim led the corporate business at Masco's largest segment of business, a multi Billion dollar business and over 15 operating companies. There he created and led a new operating company, HDSS, that was viewed as best in class by The Home Depot and the industry. Jim built this strategic operating initiative through streamlining operations, merchandising, marketing and sales. The hallmark of this business was at applying leading edge business analytics and viewed as “best in class” by the industry and customer.

Prior to Masco, Jim was a 25-year veteran of General Electric. He held numerous leadership positions in sales, marketing, and product and business development. His experience included GE Corporate, Silicones and Plastics, Appliances, Industrial Products, Lighting, Power Systems, and Consumer Credit.

In Jim's last role at GE, he was picked by then CEO Jack Welch and Bernie Marcus, co-founder of The Home Depot, to lead the corporate initiative to rebuild the relationship and the multi billion dollar business.

His track record is noted in the book Built from Scratch, written by Home Depot founders Marcus and Blank. Jim is cited for his value to as a strategic partner with Home Depot and for saving six business deals.

Throughout these experiences, Jim has demonstrated a consistent ability to contribute to organizations by motivating and mentoring teams, planning effective business strategies, managing key account relationships, and conducting business analyses of segment and market data.

Jim currently serves on the City of Hope Executive Board of Hardware, Home Improvement, and Home Building, Order Homes, The Aston Group. Also, he was Past Chairman of the GE Elfun and a member of The Home Depot Foundation Supplier Council.
